Certified smovey coaches have a wide selection of options to choose from. Waterford Music TRIO ROG

Waterford-Music have announced their new season of recitals continuing a long and unbroken tradition of classical music in the city. The first concert took on 17th September 1942 at the Large Room in City Hall when celebrity pianist Charles Lynch joined Herman Gebler, Beatrice Penrose and soprano Maura O Connor Tyrell. 75 years later in the same week and at the very same venue on Thursday, 21st September, the spirit of that first occasion will be evoked in an evening of music and song spanning four centuries.

Soprano Róisín O Grady will be joined by Malcolm Proud on piano and harpsichord and cellist Aoife Nic Atlaoich in a unique programme. Among the Baroque and Romantic gems is a world premiere of a new work hot off the press and specially commissioned to mark the anniversary. The first performance of a setting of Michael Cody’ poem The Great Embrace by Marian Ingoldsby is eagerly anticipated. At the other end of the timeline, Barbara Strozzi wrote dramatic and sophisticated music in 17th century Venice that is increasingly finding its way onto programmes. We hear her sensual cantata Lagrime Mie.

Other musical highlights of the Autumn season include Norwegian trumpet sensation Tine Thing Helseth. Two rising stars of the piano, Billy O Brien and Daniel Kearney both from Waterford will lift the lid on the house Steinway grand. We look forward to returning for a night in the magnificently restored 17th century interior of St Patrick’s Church for an evening with French string ensemble, Quatuor Voce.

Chairman Elizabeth Twohig said "We are very excited about the new season. The committee are proud of the society’s long and unbroken history of bringing top class artists to Waterford. I think the opening gala will be true to the vision of Elizabeth Downey and her founding colleagues who started Waterford-Music’s endeavours all those years ago."

Tickets are terrific value at €15 and €5 for students available on the door.
