St. Anne's TC Inter Firms Tennis 2017

st annes tennis interfirms 1

This year's Inter-firms event sponsored by Mulligan's Pharmacies/Specsavers will take place from Sunday, 23rd April to Saturday 6th May 2017. The club would like to extend an open invitation to all companies and businesses in the region to participate in this event.

The Annual Inter-firms Tennis Tournament will be held at our club grounds at John's Hill. Entries close Monday, 10th April.

Getting bigger and better with each successive year, it’s time to submit your entries for the 2017 Inter Firms Tennis Competition, once again generously sponsored by Mulligan’s Pharmacies and Specsavers – to be played at St. Anne’s Waterford Tennis Club.

Since its introduction in 1984, this competition has maintained its popularity and is now a “must” on many people’s social calendar, an event not to be missed. In tennis circles, it has gained reputation as one of the biggest and best in the country. The main attraction is that the competition is open to participants from all standards of tennis, from those who have been playing for years to relative beginners who are just as much interested in the social attractions of the event.

The term “Inter Firms” does not imply the event is restricted to a small group. Teams from factories, hospitals, offices, banks, shops, schools, organisations, etc are all welcome to play. In fact they may enter as many teams as they wish, but each team must have at least one employee and must play under the name of the factory, shop etc. Where several teams enter from one firm, the teams will be identified by the captains’ name to avoid confusion.

The competition is in the form of mixed doubles, each team consisting of four players, two ladies and two men. In order to accommodate all abilities, the competition will be divided into six sections.

Entry forms are posted to all firms and are also available at St. Anne’s Waterford Tennis Club, on the club website, or any branch of Mulligans Pharmacists or Specsavers Waterford, who are the sponsors of the event. The closing date for entries is 6pm on Monday 10th April.

Because of the large number of entries and the enormous administration task that goes with it, the closing date will not be extended. It will not be possible to accept late entries. The names of the players and the name of the team captain must be completed in full on the entry form. A contact telephone number must be included. Completed entry forms, with entry fee of €80 per team, including a courtesy €20 voucher for a welcome drink in the club bar, to be returned to Michelle Kirby, Club Administrator, St. Anne’s Waterford Tennis Club, John’s Hill, Waterford.

Play will commence at 5.30pm on Sunday 23rd April. The first round of the competition will be played in the first week and completed in the second week in conjunction with a Plate Section for First Round Losers. All teams will play at least three games. Beautiful prizes will be awarded to the finalists (winners and runners up) and these will be presented on Finals Night, Saturday 6th May.

The draw and timetable will be published in the clubhouse and on our website. It may also be viewed at St. Anne’s Waterford Tennis Club, on our website or at any branch of the Mulligan’s Pharmacies and Specsavers, the event sponsors from that date. Because of the size of the competition it will not be possible to change the time or date of any matches.

“We look forward to seeing all the teams in action for what will be the 34th Inter Firms Tennis event and even if not playing, please come along and support your friends and work colleagues, says Club Chairman Denis Breen.

Nemeton TV expands into Scotland for major contract

Irial Mac Murchú (2)

An Rinn-based TV company, Nemeton, has landed a major contract in Scotland for almost 200 hours of TV sport per year on the BBC ALBA channel.

The coverage will include Guinness PRO12 rugby, the Scottish Premiership (SPFL) and shinty. Today’s announcement marks a huge step forward for Nemeton which has seen steady growth in recent years.

CEO and owner, Irial Mac Murchú says: “Today’s announcement is a moment of immense pride for us. We are delighted to have won this contract, and in the process beating some of Britain’s biggest and most respected production companies. It is a game-changer to be taking on such a significant contract in another country and is a tribute to our hard working team in Waterford as well as the existing production team at mneTV in Glasgow who will now join Nemeton to deliver this contract. mneTV did not pitch for the contract this time.”

“It is a confluence of everything we love to do: sport, technology and creativity. Whilst it is an international contract it feels like an extension of home to be working with our Celtic partners. We look forward to working with MG ALBA and BBC ALBA and developing the opportunities that lie ahead. Our goal is to build on our existing work for TG4, bringing innovative live sport to fans everywhere.”

Nemeton, which will now employ up to 60 staff, produces TG4’s very successful live GAA and Guinness PRO12 coverage as well as web TV content for a variety of corporate clients including New York-based Adorama TV, AIB’s #THETOUGHEST campaign, the GAA and the PRO12. The company also provides people and satellite facilities for a range of broadcasters at home and abroad including RTÉ, Sky Sports and the BBC. The contract begins on 1 July 2017 and will run for three years.

AIB Ardkeen and Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) are hosting a fundraising Spinathon at Ardkeen Stores on Friday 31st March. Volunteer spinners will be taking turns to keep the wheels spinning on two spinning bikes in the foyer of Ardkeen Stores for twelve hours from 8am -8pm.  Come along and support AIB staff members, local business people and hospital staff as they sweat it out for WHAT.

All proceeds will go towards funding the ongoing arts programme of the Waterford Healing Arts Trust.  The Trust brings live arts experiences to the bedsides of patients in University Hospital Waterford as well to visitors and staff of the hospital and the wider community as a means of improving the hospital experience for all.

In the words of the Acting Arts Director, Claire Meaney, “we fund-raise on a constant basis to support our activities. We hope as many people from Waterford as possible can support this event. The more people that come along and support the spinners, the better the event will be.”

According to Carol Normoyle, Branch Manager AIB Ardkeen, “The Waterford Healing Arts Trust is close to the hearts of the people of Waterford and we are delighted to support its good work.  AIB as a Community Bank is thrilled to support this local initiative.”
