Theatre Royal Educating Rita 1Is it time for a change? Fancy a night out with the girl’s and a pre-show glass of prosecco? If so, come to Educating Rita: 8th & 9th March at the Theatre Royal

Following its record-breaking run at the Lyric Theatre Belfast in 2016, this reimagined production of Willy Russell’s award-winning comedy embarks on a tour of Ireland in 2017 with its original cast of Michael James Ford and Kerri Quinn.

It’s 1980, and Susan ‘Rita’ White has decided it’s time for a change.

A wise-cracking, no-nonsense hairdresser from the working-class streets of Belfast, Rita is tired of her job, her prospects, her husband, her life. She wants to be the sort of woman who knows the difference between Shaw’s Bridge and George Bernard Shaw, and so enrols in an Open Learning course in English Literature where she meets her tutor Frank - a lecturer from North Down who teaches at Queen’s University - and begins her journey of self-discovery.

Pre show glass of prosecco €5 per person. Show starts @ 8pm - Tickets €21.00 available from the Theatre Royal box-office.

What is Design Thinking?

Design thinking can be described as a discipline that uses the designer’s sensibility and methods to match people’s needs with what is technologically feasible and what a viable business strategy can convert into customer value and market opportunity.

- Tim Brown CEO, IDEO

Design Thinking is a human centered process that follows a series of steps to understand and create new and often innovative ways to solve problems.

The design thinking process involves empathy, observation and communication to discover current and future customer unmet needs within the framework and limitations of a particular set of circumstances. Design Thinking defines the opportunity and scope for innovation through ideation, generating creative ideas, testing and refining solutions.

What to Expect from this Workshop

We will introduce the design thinking process and the application in business. We will equip you with sample tools for application in your organisation.

This is an engaging, creative and interactive learning experience where participants will go through the steps involved in the Design Thinking Process. Learning by doing is the focus. Participants can expect to take part in hands-on sample design thinking challenges to experience the practical application for Design Thinking. (No role play!)

Who is the workshop for?

It is aimed at business owners/managers who are curious about exploring a methodology for design led innovation and a framework to help identify new opportunities for growth and innovation.

What is required?

All that is required is an open mindset to explore a creative way of thinking to solve problems!

Waterford Music

Waterford Music Gavan Ring 1

In the first half of their 75th season, Waterford Music presented four wonderfully varied recitals. The unusual combination of David Power’s uilleann pipes with Baroque strings filled the Large Room to open proceedings. Rising star pianist, Nathalia Millstein thrilled us on a night of thunder and lightning on the Mall. The Vanbrugh visited us for a bittersweet final visit and Chamber Choir Ireland raised their voices in an all Bach programme.

As we say farewell and thanks to all these superb artists, we look forward to four more recitals in the Spring. Baritone Gavan Ring takes a break from his busy operatic career to visit us in the first week of March. Included in his programme will be a new song setting by Marian Ingoldsby.

French piano and cello duo Emanuelle Bertrand and Pascal Amoyel stop off on their Irish tour. For our 600th concert in April, we welcome back the Irish Chamber Orchestra to the Large Room in a joint venture with the Symphony Club of Waterford. We close our season with string sextets with a high-powered ensemble assembled by violinist Elizabeth Cooney.

Waterford Music has received acknowledgement for Arts Council grant approval for €7,000 under the Festivals and Events Strand for 2017. Chairman Elizbeth Twohig said, “We are delighted to have our efforts recognized by the Arts Council and this support will underpin our ambitious plans for our anniversary year.”

Waterford Music ticket prices remain great value at €15, students €5 and a special family half season ticket is €75 for all four recitals.
