Chamber Expo bursting with positivity for a bright future
The positive air in Waterford was clearly evident at the fourth Waterford Chamber Business Expo, which took place at Audi Waterford on Thursday last.
Sponsored by BMCI Insurance and Investments, the event saw over 100 exhibitors network and support local business.
Speaking at the event, Waterford Chamber President Laurent Borla said: “The atmosphere here today is one of positivity and determination. We are coming off the back of some very significant announcements in recent weeks which will no doubt be game changers for Waterford.
“There is so much potential for Waterford right now, it’s hard not to be positive, from the proposed development of the North Quays, Waterford Greenway and the very significant ongoing and planned infrastructural investment in the city centre, all of which can only present opportunity for business growth. It’s up to each of us to capitalise on and embrace the positive change that is around us.”
He went on to introduce incoming CEO Gerald Hurley who took the time to meet with Chamber members before commencing his position on Monday, 10th April. Gerald is a familiar face to many members, having spent most of his career with McInerney Construction, which he joined in 1987, becoming an Executive Director of the company in 1997 and brings a wealth of experience to the role.
Laurent Borla concluded by thanking the exhibitors, sponsors and Chamber members for their continued support, as well as WLR’s Teresanne O’Reilly who was broadcasting live from the showroom throughout the event.
Speaking on air to Teresanne, Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Adam Wyse said: “This event shows the opportunities in business in Waterford and how working together will yield results. Having everyone under one roof like this is amazing. SMEs are the backbone of the Irish economy and this just demonstrates their willingness to succeed.”
Brendan Walsh, General Manager at Audi Waterford said he was delighted to support local business by hosting such a positive event in the Audi showroom.
“This has been an amazing event for us to host. The numbers attending are incredible and it is great for Waterford to have an event like this to showcase all the wonderful businesses out there.”
Closing the event, sponsor Teresa Jane O’Mahoney of BMCI Insurance and Investments said: “This is our fourth year sponsoring the Waterford Chamber Business Expo and as it grows and grows each year we are delighted to show our support for Waterford Chamber. These are great times for Waterford and it is fantastic to see so many businesses working together. If we stick together, support local businesses and put the best foot forward there is nothing we can’t achieve. This evening is a perfect example of that.”
