Ardkeen QFS Theatre of Food 2017

Electric Picnic is an annual arts and music festival which has been staged since 2004 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally, Co. Laois. Originally a 1-day event with 10,000 attendees the festival has grown exponentially the last 13 years to now hosting 55,000 people over a three-day weekend.

An eclectic mix of music, cookery demos, tastings, workshops and discussions, The Theatre of Food Marquee is the flagship of food at the festival. The brainchild of John & Sally McKenna, this year yet again ToF attracted an impressive list of luminaries from the Irish food community including Darina Allen, Rory O’Connell, JP McMahon, Gary O’Hanlon and Rosanna Davidson.

For the third year running Ardkeen Quality Food Store were invited to provision the ingredients for Theatre of Food, bringing the very best of Ireland’s artisan and craft food producers to the stage and to the attention of some of Ireland's top chefs.

Colin & Kevin Jephson even took to the stage with fellow Waterfordians and chefs Michael Quinn and Paul Flynn (The Tannery). Paul was intrigued as to how a small independent store could have thrived let alone survive for 50 years in the midst of international retail giants.

The Jephson’s cited strong relationships and a commitment to quality as the reason behind the longevity and success of Ardkeen which boasts both customers and suppliers who are 2nd and 3rd generation.

Michael Quinn was keen to point out provenance also played an important role, reinforced appropriately by cooking a recipe which included fine Irish producers like Rings Farm, Highbank Orchard, O’Neill’s Bacon and Wexford potatoes.
